I wish there where more mirrows
Marcella Ruiz Cruz
Anna Theresa Pöll
This work intimately explores ideas of intimacy, queer body and space and negotiates the complicated notions of the gaze. The artists are turning the lens on themselves, capturing a moment of tenderness as a radical act. Set against the white walls of a domestic space, the mirrors create a multi-layered latent image, in which the viewer assumes a queer position. Mirroring has as a double function that reveals and conceals, distorts and multiplies. Reality is fragmented by the division and refraction of the mirror surfaces, emphasizing the idea of identity as multilayered. The space provides context and underlines the scene in the photograph, which is both timeless and specific, reinforcing the emotional weight of the moment captured. Photography thus becomes a dialogue between the seen and the unseen, between the viewer and the subjects, reflected by the surfaces that dominate the frame. The act of viewing transforms from passive observation to active participation, making the viewer an essential part of the intimate, multi-layered story that unfolds in the mirrors.
